Will my mute harm my cello and its sound?

Q: I heard that cello’s body imprints the vibrations from the sounds played on it and this is why good intonation is important for the instrument in the long run. What if I’m harming my cello by muting its frequency spectrum most of the time?

A: Playing with mute is not going to ruin your cello in any way. If you have one of those rubber cello mutes, it can only left black marks on your bridge (I already have them šŸ™ˆ). In fact, playing with the cello mute on forces you to play more in tune, so you tend to imprint the right vibrations.
